Rural life usually means boring. Living in the dorm with none Chinese restaurant around. That's what I heard from Tuck's student. Though Tuck's alumni are much more loyalty than Chicago's, but almost every bank goes to both schools, job offer will still depend on your qualification. So, careerwise, there is only little difference.

Another $0.02, Tuck is strong at banking and consulting. If economy goes down after two years, Chicago will offer you more alternative career opportunities.

Above are just my own thoughts, no offense to either school.

Congratulation!

Chicago is very rigirous. If you want a comparably relax life, Tuck is better. I ever saw Chicago student got up at 4:00am on Saturday to finish his homework.

Actually, it depends on your career goal. Chicago is a very academic school and strong at finance. Tuck is strong at GM and focuses on leadership development. For me, I prefer Tuck.

Yeah, procrastination makes me get up at 4:00am to finish homework before the 8:30 class... Not a typical GSBer! Also, with GSB's flexible cirriculum, you can choose to have an easy or tough life.

Congrats to LZ! You are correct that between Tuck and Chicago, career placement is no longer a major differentiator. Both are doing eaqually great in your target industry/function.

If you haven't yet, I guess you may want to talk to students at both schools to get a feel of the perceived distinctively different cultures. Then you will have a good idea of what kind of life you will likely lead in the next two years. Cuz that's all that matters when you are not doing recruiting.

Fewer Chinese got offers from IBD division than those did from equity or S&T.  Having a CPA or CFA title will help you make to second round for IBD, but your communication skill will decide your fate.  Your age will give you an edge.

Chicago is better for you if you are interested in S&T and/or equity, and Tuck is better if you want to work at IBD.  The job placement rate of Chinese students at Tuck has been 100% since 2000.  How about Chicago?

I chose Tuck over two NY b-schools (still wondering what if my decision was the other way around.)  I did summer intern at Wall street and realized 80-90 hours a week was too much for me.

Location was a tough issue to overcome.  I had to rely on phone to do networking.

So what industry do you target now?

Come on, who cares about those two years (actrually 16months besides internship) life style. The key is to find a school who can help you to land a dream job. Chicago surely better than any of other top schools in my mind in terms of preparing Chinese to find a finance type of job in US. Not only becasue their flexibile curriculum, but its vigrous academic envrionment. Your background is M&A, then you should know what M&A in China looks like, just not enough exposure in terms of accounting, valuation skills and experience. Chicago is a more lecture based school, or at least you can choose so. So go and take more of those hard core finance classes, which you never can learn from those universities in China. This can prepare you well if you try to break into Wall Street. BTW, I work for a major WS Firm, and most of Chinese I know here are from Wharton, Columbia, and Chicago. You can argue they have more chinese people, but don't you think a stronger chinese alumni community is more helpful also?

Tuck is a solid school, and a quite respectful school on the Street, but simply not that competitive for international students.

Same answer as I replied to the other thread. Hope to contribute my part...

做过了商学院的面试,在校学生做过了咨询公司的case study,你一定知道底气和表现的关系,当你明白who you are, what you can bring, what you cannot, and where you want to be,你一定可以信心十足地表现你的commitment和potential.但是你怎样才能实现对自己的了解呢?

我们大概一辈子都在了解自己。90%进入商学院的人都想在一个转折的阶段认识自己。

(sorry, typing in Chinese is so slow.....)

Think back of our life line, there is some 'people' playing a critical role at each key decision you made.

People is the motivation of your development and change.

Interaction with people keeps us grow.

That is where Tuck fits in:

  • A group study set up make sure you have five other bodies watching you evolve each term, you meet them every day, there is no where you could hide or escape. Feedback is given whenever you require them.

  • Close-knit community means you can always walk into a professor, director's door, seeking mentorship, talking concerns. Whenever you need attention.

  • Outdoor-oriented environment teach you how important sports/nature is for a balanced life, and a richer experience.

  • Integrated General Management curriculum prepare you for a challenging job right after graduation. You'll know how much you improved personally and professionaly during the summer internship.

Depending upon your personality/career goals, that is ALL making the decision. Good luck!

Latest FT ranking puts GSB of Chicago No.6 in the world.

Chicago also tops in speciality rankings such as Finance and Economics.

FT carries some weight, So the decision is up to you.

I don't believe you can make fair judgment based on one sample. Also, maybe she has other qualities that are not fully revealed in her application materials (or not fully recognized by you) but are delivered in the interview.

Just so you know, Chicago GSB does not recruit more students in recent years than most schools with comparable class size. In my year (Class 2006) there are about 12 students directly from China, and another 10 or more who worked or studied in US but originally from China. By now (5 months before graduation) 90% of these people are done with recruiting, which I believe is among the best placement results of top schools.

I've always heard many "stories" about Chicago, but it is really up to the candidate him/herself to see and believe. Also, your b-school life is what you make of it.
