i want to apply the MAC program in UNC, do you have commnets on this program?
how difficult for an applicant from mainland? MY GMAT and TOEFL is ok, but no W/E,do i have any chance to be admitted by MAC program in UNC?
If i choose to work for one or two years after my graduation next summer, would i have a greater chance to be get in ?

I don't know much of MAC.  This is a program in the Business School too.  They look to be very young.  I guess that some of them should have no work experience.  They have pretty good career promise, if you are not too ambitious.  Some of them go to the Big 4 (unfortunately, the 5th exploded) after graduation, but I don't know the percentage.  Anyway, have a try.  It harms nothing.  If you want to work as an auditor after graduation, the earlier you begin the more you can expect.  Trust me, I used to work at PwC myself for a year.

thanks for your reply.you are so kind
i will have a try.
In your mind, if there is no W/E requirement, how the W/E will affect the study in  B-school? If i want to work as an auditor after graduation, will the W/E in china for one or two years be helpful ?
how do you feel the one year worked at PwC ? According to the situation of the students who graduate these years in my university, i may have a little chance to accpeted by big 4 in china, if i have such opportunities , should i go to work or stick on application?
so many questions, hehe, thanks agian

W/e is definitely helpful!  I just met the MAC students in a party.  They said that you'd better have w/e.  UNC MAC programs ranks top 5 in US, very competitive.  But I promise you it's worthwhile to have a try.  All accounting and finance related professors in the Business School are amazingly superb!

But as to work for a few years in PwC first, it's a good idea too.  I cannot judge for you.  I used to work at PwC too.  The credentials at PwC will help you a lot in your job hunting.

This is the post I posted somewhere else in this BBS, for your reference.  This is initiated by a question about looking for a part-time job in UNC area.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Academically, this MBA program is very tough.  I cannot imagine how you can go for a part-time job when you are struggling both for courses and jobs.  I can tell you that it is 100% surely IMPOSSIBLE!  I really don't know how I can still hanging around this BBS.  Maybe it's just because I have some kind of commitment to the MBA admission office personally.  But I promise you that most UNC MBA graduates are willing to contribute to the school, as what I am doing here.

But I agree with you that when you go for information interviews, you have to travel a lot to New York and other cities.  I did three trips to other cities, including NYC, Atlanta and Charlotte in the past 4 weeks, very intensive, and very inconvenient.

But the alums are very supportive.  In most of the time, it's enough to just call the alums.

The above may be a little bit complicated to you before you really come to a top MBA program.  You will learn a lot of job hunting skills in school, and then know what I am really talking about.  I know I know ... it's confusing to you at this moment.  But I cannot explain more.  It's really a big topic.  I am on the learning curve too.

Also, please allow me to say here: most Chinese students say that finance and operation management are the two stronggest areas of this MBA program.  And the job placement proved this too.  Of course, there are many students working in marketing after graduation too.

Finally, don't expect too much or too high from an MBA program.  Your previous experience matters a lot, especially when the job market is down.  Also, if you are a career changer, i.e. you want to work in a different area after school, you must keep your original career area as a backup, always.

Hope these infomation helps.

Sorry, I got this message late. Duke is a comparatively conservative school as to UNC.  I don't know whether I can say so.  But if you visit both schools, you will find the students are different, at least to my opinion.  If you want to do consulting after school, work more on Duke.  But you should know, as a Chinese student, you cannot count on the top consulting firms a lot.  You need a backup plan.  Also, to study in Duke is not as demanding as in UNC.  Sometimes, this is important.  Of course, you will learn less than in UNC too.

Good luck!

Thanks, Yale bro.
I did my interview in Duke on Nov.10th. I also went to UNC to meet one guy in Public Health School. Everything was fine except I lost in UNC campus. At that time, I hoped that I had your phone number
The weather was great in Triangle Research Park.
Hope we can meet next year in TRP.
