These words are insightful, incisive, and down-to-earth. I personally hold in high regard the PhD in Economics credential and the economist profession. However, generally only a PhD from a top 30 (or top 50 at least) econ program is genuinely valuable in both academic and pecuniary terms. Unfortunately, the Florida State econ program is not within the top 50. As stated here, for the vast majority of econ PhDs from lower-tier programs, even faculty opportunities at mediocre teaching colleges are beyond reach, leaving the private sector and government the only available career destinations.
  
The job market for the Management concentration is relatively tougher than that for the others and is increasingly so; nevertheless, it is easier than the econ job market as a whole.

好奇econ有啥业界工作可以很高薪的

虽然印象中Amazon有role叫做economist，或者可能uber之类大厂的applied scientist也可以投递（不过感觉as更面向做算法的phd而不是econ）但并不是那种只要是个phd都可以去的、可以作为保底选项的岗。必须要细分领域更对口、更落地才行，大趋势是越来越卷，估计也需要有相关的实习经历，面试基本都是组面而非general hire。（仅一点个人感受，dp是身边读cs phd的学长）

amazon的economist以及uber的applied scientist很难去（这两个岗位package都很高），偏好名校毕业的，就算是intern去完了return率也不高。而且as为啥别人不要cs/stat/math/or，要一个econ毕业的？所以我实在好奇econ到底有啥能去的高薪岗位，特别还是非名校毕业的。

但凡了解一点近年econ phd job market就不用这样的论点来劝人读econ了

Tech companies such as Amazon hire a large number of Economics PhDs, as is evident from program placement data. They are much sought after for their command of advanced economic theory and econometric analysis skills (e.g., structural modeling and linear modeling using DiD and experimental design for causal inference). CS and OR graduates, especially the former, are generally weak or lacking in these special areas of expertise.
