Thanks a lot. I think my interest lies in the accounting related to capital market and fundamental valuation. Still, my age is a huge problem if I want to find a tenure job in mainland china after graduation, this is also why many of my friends, including my professor who agreed to offer me a recommendation letter, suggested me to forget about applying for PhD. But I don’t think it’s my choice, it is one thing I have to do now. PhD means uncertainties after five years, but right I am even not eligible for those uncertainties. I do think a PhD’s degree would help, although with five more years’ of struggle.

You can't be older than me at any time of life.
I'm turning 44 and will be on the job market in 2024.

性价比远远低于留在香港混到永居后考香港的公务员

You will be greatly disadvantaged by doing an Acct/Fin PhD overseas, if your goal is to 进到当地二本从讲师.
I don't thing going back to a second-tier university in mainland China is a bad idea.
But I think I would be a really bad to get into a second-tier university in China by doing a business PhD abroad.
There are many other better ways to get you into a second-tier university in mainland China than spending 5 years studying abroad.

As far as I know, Biz schools in mainland China are dominated by Econ PhDs, and extremely care about the world ranking of the university where you get your PhD degree from.
The world ranking of the university where you get your Acct/Fin PhD degree from will normally be much lower than the world ranking of the university where you get your Econ PhD degree from, considering that more than 1500 Econ PhD are offered, and less than 400 Acct/Fin PhDs are offered in North American alone.

That’s just an option if I have the opportunity been admitted as a PhD candidate by top 5 universities in Hong Kong. Considering about my age, it’s always better trying to find a job outside mainland China as long as I have thechance. Econ both provides more faculty positions and receives more PhD, but the difficulty in looking for a tenure job is the highest among all the bussiness programs according to the messages searched on the Internet. I will try to read as more papers as possible, not to limit in the accounting. Maybe other programs could also be discovered interest me such as Econ, IS, and Entrepreneurship.

感觉背景并不是一般acct phd student的背景，一般背景是econ 或者fin，之前有比较好的计量的基础（上课➕作业）

有机会但是需要不少努力，你的学校 gpa 和英语都挺好的，但是需要花费不少努力跨来acct，并且向committee证明motivation。


目前在自学计量经济学、STATA以及看一些会计方面的文献，想申请24fall的会计博。但感觉时间有点来不及，基本所有学校都错过第一轮了。尝试过套瓷港五助理教授，目前只有其中一个回信说直接去网页申请，其他暂无回信。
想请教大家，如果这种bg申请会计很难的话，

是否需要先找金融/审计相关工作，
不需要
还是找海外或者国内的会计ra，然后寄希望于申请25Spring或25fall的？
如果你真的下定决心的话 RA is necessary，最好问问硕士期间的prof

“如果有幸申请上，博士毕业超35，基本也只能在海外找教职，想问问大家华人在海外的商科教职好找吗？回国的话基本只能去二本，甚至五年后也许二本都会卡35岁，那就只能去大专了。”

如果你下定决心去大专或者二本，我想委员会不回招你，因为他们会担心这会成为placement的污点。一半来说，港新phd 毕业以回国为主，主要是985以及一些top 211。也有一些人去欧洲和澳洲享受work life balance
