除非写一部详尽的传记，人们几乎不会过多关注这个人物的青年时期。对于传记主人公作家来说，这段作家早期克服由众多影响所带来的焦虑、习得错综复杂的语言、形成自成一派风格的时期，往往被摒弃或者忽视。这一操作在写作传记中可能是一个惯例，但却排除了我们探寻作家由此取得最终成功的机会。虽然不看他青年时期也可以，但是关注后，通过识别创作的文学之源，能够加强我们对作家风格、美学的理解。
