p1, most know CH4 as natural gas,
600m/year--human activities + natural
from 3 : 1, wetlands --the greatest share
2, cattle, sheep, termites-- by-product
3, forest and savanna fires, combustion of fossil fuels.
IPCC, major sources identified--% each uncertain
p2, CH4 clouds--green vagetation
CH4 levels change with global temperature(puzzled for years) . 1, ice cores--during ice ages, CO2 low, warm spells, CO2 increase.
2, CH4 hydrates-- trapped in ocean sedements--sudden release (a possible cause for global warming events in distant past)--but stable past 40 000 years.
vagetation varies with climate--variations/a possible cause of the CH4 levels
p3, CH4 by plants diminish or even outweigh the carbon storage effect of reforestation.
benefits (new forests to obsorb CO2)>more CH4 to the atmosphere (reduce the carbon uptake of trees by 4%)--reduing global warming by planting trees is most definitely positive.
but, 植被释放的CH4是否会对气候有影响--concern
plant feedback--most likely in the past, today, unlikely--forests have been cut down.
it's not the plants, it's the global large-scale burning of fossil fuels.
words:
savanna, 热带草原
uptake,吸收,摄入
