View1: Britain and France regard the period between the declaration of hostilities in 1929 and May 1940 as the phoney war -> View2 : Roger Moorhouse rebuts the view -> Moorhouse describes the reality about the part of the history to support his view : what Poles experienced during that time and what they did to defence -> What causes the myth -> Moorhouse’s attitude
每段段落大意
1, It is generally acknowledged that the second world war is disastrous. However, opinions are divided on the time when the war started for it is different to different country. Britain and France regard the period between the declaration of hostilities in 1939 and May 1940 as the “phoney war”. But Roger Moorhouse refutes the view. He argues that Poles experienced the devastating war during the period and they launched defence though the part of history is absent from standard histories in any language.
2, Moorhouse remedies the gap by investigating different kinds of resources. Then the passage goes on to describe the part of the history. In reality, Poland was not as weak as thought and they even defeated the hitler’s stuttering war machine.
3, Moorhouse gives several reasons for the distortion of such history of Poland. For one thing, Nazis exaggerated their combat capability. For another thing, the Western allies, Britain, France and Soviet Union, skewed the story out of self-interest.
4,Moorhouse believes that history should give Poland and Poland’s cavalry a fairer evaluation.

2, But they lacked the decisive elements : amour and air-power. Military planning was plagued by (被困扰)secrecy and mistaken assumptions. Some of the top commanders were notable duds.
3,the myth of invincible(所向披靡) Blitzkrieg was burnished, self interestedly, by the Nazis themselves. 无敌闪电战的神话是纳粹自己自私自利地创造出来的。
4,It all deserves more than the simplistic but widespread caricature of a country [which met the invading tanks with a cavalry charge.]

View: Recent findings that the proto-historic Hawaiian temple may have built within just 30 years rather than 250 year could change the understanding of the pace of precontact sociopolitical change in the Pacific. -> Support the view: How get the new finding and what’s use of the new evidence
每段段落大意
1,Recent findings that the proto-historic Hawaiian temple may have built within just 30 years rather than 250 year could change the understanding of the pace of precontact sociopolitical change in the Pacific.
2,The passage goes on to elaborate on the findings. In the past, archaeologists had been unable to confirm the sequence of change in Maui for lack of relative technology.
3,Recently, researchers used another kind of radiometric technique to date bits of branch coral existed in the temples and found that dates on the samples ranged within 30 years, possibly marking that the construction boom accompanies a profound shift in sociopolitical structure.
4, The new finding meets the conquests described by local traditions. The new evidence is of great importance to understanding the speed of the sociopolitical transition.
印象深刻的句子
1, Proto-historic Hawaiian temples on the islands of Maui may have mushroomed up within just 30 years, not 250 as previously supposed.
2, because temples served as centers for control of production and the collection of surplus goods, the team contends, it seems likely that the construction boom accompanied a profound shift in sociopolitical structure.
