1/lead in-what is the general idea?
*in general-- you a have a situation in which something might be expected to happen, but the oppisite happens.
e.g. citizens of town Asmoke fewer cigarettes per capita than do citizens of town B. however, citizens of town A suffer from lung cancer at twice the rate at which citizens of town Bsuffer from that disease.
a template for it: 1).-----has happened. (differences in smoking)
2). normally, this would mean-----(more smoking means cancer)
3). this time, ----has happened.(more cancer in the town with less smoking)
so we need something explains more cancer in town with less smoking:
1). air pollution
2).occupational hazard
3).smoke thing other than cigarettes
*overal review of "explain the situation"
1.the primary challenge of these problems is to understand what the question actually is ( template helps understand the problem)
2.the correct answer will always be outside the scope of the passage---if you see a choice stay inside the scope, that's incorrect.
3.you will have to make reasonable assumptions to make the connections required
