facing her is the distance she has traveled from her journey’s beginning and that
the other number is the distance to her journey’s end. That is, at the first milepost
she believes she has come 21 miles and has 23 miles left to go. In fact, the numbers
are actually the reverse of her reasoning. At the second milepost she has 20 miles
left to go and has come 24 miles.

我的问题：题目中和解释中的红色部分应该是对应的，但是我却理解不了。。求解释啊！十分感谢！

我大概懂了！就是说这个hiker认为下一个milepost上显示的两个数字indicate了她在一段路的中间。也就是说两个数字相等，都是22。也就是说他认为21到22是他走了多远，23到22是他离终点还有多远。但是事实上牌子上却显示20和24.也就是说，他把两个数字弄反了。21到20意味着他离终点还有多远，而23到24是他走了多远。
