Grammar
1.Clause: subject+working verb
Independent clause:every sentence must have at least one independent clause.
Dependent clause: cannot stand alone as a sentence.
A complete sentence requires one independent clause,but more complex sentences will also include something else:another independent clause ,a dependent clause,or other modifiers.
2.Modifier:provides additional information in a sentence, beyond the core subject and verb.
nonessential modifier: if you remove it from the sentence,the core of the sentence still makes sense.
Essential modifier: remove it, the meaning of the sentence is murky.
3.Sentence core
The core of a sentence consists of any independent clauses along with some essential modifiers.
4.Conjunctions
Coordinating conjunctions:
can glue two independent clauses together. FANBOYS(for,and, nor, but,or, yet,so)
Subordinating conjunctions:
modifiers can be connected to independent clauses by subordinating conjunctions.(although, before, after,if)
5.Marker:
a flag or clue that a certain issue is being tested.Make a flash cards !!!
