Hi Tripleg. Thank you a lot for this "ranking". It is extremely helpful for my application this year. I see you place NUS as tier 1 university several years ago. I was just wondering how do you like SMU (Singapore Management Univ.)? Their placement record in recent years is really impressive. Where is approximately SMU in your ranking? Thank you again for your valuable guidance for my application. Although I have received my results, but I am still looking forward to your update.:lol:

Hi Tripleg, I found your ranking extremely helpful in selecting which tiers to apply for, and I truly appreciate the insights you’ve shared. Given your experience, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to evaluate these programs, especially regarding research support and faculty strengths. Congratulations on your Singapore Management University offer! I would assign the SMU program a slot in Tier 3 of the Placement Rankings. Its placements are quite impressive, as you mentioned, though being more localized (in China, namely) relative to those of the NUS program.

Hello Tripleg,

Your sharings and posts have been so helpful for my application, I want to say THANK YOU before asking my questions. I received management (ob) phd offers from U of central florida, Case western reserve and Oklahoma State. Honestly, I do not know how to choose the "best" offer because they are at the same tier.

I think case western's OB program WAS good because it has a lot of strong professors like Richard Boyatzis, but I noticed that there are no new AP in the program for years and two thirds of faculty members are full professors. And, the teaching load is heavy, sometimes I thought this program is overweighing teaching than doing research.

I personally want to take the oklahoma state because I think professors there are nice and the whole program is at an upgoing trend. But I can not be sure about that.

Finally, my questions is: ... Can you share your thoughts about these three universities? Which one do you think is better for entering research university (though difficult).

It is indeed not easy to make a choice among these programs because they are rather similar in terms of placements across all concentrations. Nevertheless, Oregon and South Carolina seem to do better in Accounting. South Carolina is the strongest among the four when it comes to faculty research (among top 50 in UTD Top 100), but that is overweighed by placements.

For both Central Florida and Oklahoma State, one's best bet would be to land a 'balanced school' position. This is true especially for those in the Management concentration, in which the job market is abysmal. I might be wrong, though, as I am not familiar with Oklahoma State. You are right, the Case Western program seems to have gone downhill over the years. Besides, it kind of resembles the UVA program so far as admission approaches and curriculum are concerned. Still, as stated on its website, its Organizational Behavior concentration has a long tradition of success.
