Scholarships and Graduate Assistant Awards for Full-Time Students

The Neeley School offers extremely competitive merit-based awards to help students in the transition back to the classroom. Typically, 75% of Neeley MBA students receive scholarships and/or graduate assistant awards. Last year, awards ranged from $2,000 to $28,500 with an average of $12,000 per year.

Dallas-Fort Worth business school

All Stars 2004

The Dallas Business Journal asked universities around the Metroplex offering master of business administration degrees to identify two students currently studying at their institution who they believe are likely to make their mark on the local business community in the future. The nominees were asked to answer a few questions and their responses, in their own words, are detailed below.

TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY

Jennifer Marie Trevino

Born: 1976, Bellflower, Calif.

Pre-MBA: Store director, HEB Grocery Co., September 1998 to June 2002. Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and management, Cum Laude, Texas Tech University, 1998.

Reason for undertaking MBA: I chose to pursue an MBA to change direction in my career, broaden my experience and strengthen my skills. I chose to attend the Neeley School at TCU for several reasons including the small class sizes, variety in the programs offered and the comfortable atmosphere. Overall, I think my experiences, both in and out of the classroom at TCU, have prepared me for future success.

Strengths: Writing and working with people. Other strengths include relationship building, dependability and the ability to view situations from a different perspective. The MBA program at TCU has also provided many opportunities to develop and strengthen my analytical skills.

Weaknesses: One of the weaknesses I've worked on throughout my MBA is perfectionism. The team environment at TCU provided plenty of practice for learning how to let others take control and responsibility for projects and tasks.

The next step: I'm currently interviewing. Companies I'm targeting include 7-Eleven, SBC, Blockbuster, BNSF, Alcon Laboratories, Radio Shack and Pier 1 Imports. I want to work for a company where I will be able to leverage both my education and retail-management experience. I also look forward to staying involved in education by mentoring young Hispanic and Black students so that they too can pursue their dreams and achieve success.

Jason Kuester

Born: 1974, Las Cruces, N.M.

Pre-MBA: Project manager, Carlson. Bachelor's degree in biology, Baylor University, Waco, 1996.

Reason for undertaking MBA: I wanted to make a career change and knew that I needed an MBA to give me the foundation in classical business skills I required. I was drawn to the Neeley School because of its resources and programs, namely the Educational Investment Fund.

Strengths: I feel my most important asset is my ability to communicate. It was my biggest ally in dealing with clients before I started my MBA and has been invaluable in adapting to and managing group projects in business school.

Weaknesses: My chief weakness is delegation. I often find it easier and faster to do things myself than to rely on my peers.

The next step: After graduation I will sit for the first level of the Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) exam. Additionally, I am looking for opportunities in the fields of investment and portfolio management that will allow me to apply the concepts and principles I have learned in class, while leveraging the experience I have acquired.
