Good to hear from you!
So I think you can have a chance to  get into a very good school if you hit the GMAT. Your profile seems very interesting.

the biggest problem with what you propose though is your goals. Moving to PE/VC IBD is VERY unlikely for you. It’s a highly competitive field, and they like to hire people young. It doesn’t mean it’s impossible in reality (although it might be a bit hard). What is DOES mean is that strategically it is not a good goal for your applications. I would recommend finding a goal that makes sense in industry. The petroleum industry might be shrinking, for example, but I keep on reading lots of articles about the growth of Wind and Solar, which is close to your industry, and you might for example propose some goals in those industries. The important thing for the AdCom is that your goals MAKE SENSE. They need to remain realistic and plausible for them to be effective.

转行去IBD非常的难。如果你能申上M7转行的机会会有，非M7基本转不了（除非个人能力特别强，毕竟我也认识一个非M7后来还去了华尔街的）。 另外GMAT和ESSAY非常非常重要，至少750+，加油吧

我有朋友是类似的路线，top石油公司读了M7然后做energy investment banking，然后发现banking真是太没有意思了，现在在找投资方面的工作。所以你想的这条路是走得通的。Houston还是energy banking的大本营，Rice有地理优势是因为很多人不愿意做energy也不想去Houston，如果你在M7愿意走Houston track机会是很大的。但是banking的lifestyle真的是不太敢恭维，考虑到你的年纪，再加上要小孩的计划，还是再想想吧，也可以做个暑假实习体验一下。

如果做banking，工作一年，signing bonus+工资+固定奖金税前25w左右，勉强可以cover学费的。
