对于不理解的词，有的时候我们可以通过语境来分析，就这道题来说，看见了破折号，又发现看不懂的词在破折号里面夹着，那么可以根据破折号的应用原理（解释说明或举例之前可能没有说清楚的内容）来小心推测一下词义

破折号前的句子： unless they themselves are caughtin an act of moral turpitude

这句话我们看到了 caught，moral，还有一个不认识（反正我是不认识）的词 turpitude。moral 道德，caught 抓住，后面这个不认识的紧跟moral，那肯定是道德的什么意思，那我才就是道德不好被抓住。

再看波折号后的句意：the younger faculty cannot turn around and fire them.

看到词：younger faculty，fire。这道题提到的对象就只有两个，veteran faculty 和 younger faculty，然后younger还fire，那肯定是老的干了不好的事。

现在再看破折号里的：a concept that in the present climate almost defies definition。


我们已知的词义 defy 违背挑衅，definition 定义，再加上根据前后句意的意思，对于defies definition可以理解为不好的行为打破了什么的界限或是定义。说白了就是：干了不好的事。

准备GMAT, OG/PREP 07/08/12 最多加个曼哈顿 就可以了。OG是神书，好好弄明白里面的每一道题比其他书里的强一百倍(但是不要看OG的解释，解释写的太戳了）--- 这是一个走过无数弯路的人的肺腑之言。

你翻译的好详细呀，其实我只是想知道defies definition的意思，不过看完你其他的翻译部分感觉更明白了。
受到你的启发后（defy，违背挑衅）我又重新去金山词霸查了查definition，发现还有”规定“的意思。这下就对了defy definition=违背法规。

这道题是陈向东的书上的一道题。他翻译的可不明白了。
其实你要是有兴趣可以出本书，我会买的

亲耐滴，看到你真好。

经过你这么一提醒，我才发觉我下的是 Powerscore LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible。
但是这位LZ说这个更全，530页，结果就是各种看不懂。。。
重新下了一本，是这个样子滴（见截图），300多页，你看看这个终于应该对了吧。

不过这道题是陈向东的，bible英文看得累就跑来看中文了。

你如果时间够我建议你看LSAT的那本，那本书经典全在里面。
时间不够GMAT Bible 也够了但是前提是要每个类型都弄明白了，去看OG吧，加油！不明白可以戳我

不敢当 不敢当，只是一点小想法跟大神们比起来还差的远。 其实我刚看了楼下另一位同学的回答，说的很对，GMAT Bible是本好书，一定要看仔细。再加上是外国人写的 更贴近外国出题者的思路，多看看那些，比中国人写的逻辑书会有更大的进步。中国人的逻辑书怎说呢，首先能出书的就是大神们或特牛的人，人家的思路首先就跟我们不太一样，所以有些题解释起来我们看的云里雾里的，这样会更让我们觉得CR好神秘，好难。 所以，争取cr方面先紧着外国人的官方教材看
