It is important to note that every year there are many students that apply for H1B Visas in the United States after completing their education—it is an extremely competitive process in any university.
Because the incoming class is very different every year, what kind of roles they seek and where they end up will also vary too. Just like any other job, the location and the role that graduates end up in is largely determined by the background of the student and what their goals are. Fisher’s Office of Career Management places a great emphasis on meeting the special challenges and unique needs of international students. As an incoming student into the program, you will work with a Career Consultant specific to that graduate degree program. They provide students with individual consultation on job search preparation, access to career fairs, on-campus interviews, and networking events, and they maintain postings for full-time career positions through our own private web-based job search tool.
For the 2016 graduating class of the SMF program, we also have several students from China specifically who successfully found employment in the U.S., with many still working here and pursuing a successful career. As an example, for the SMF Class of 2016, there were 15 Chinese students (out of a group of 26) who were actively searching for employment in the U.S. (the rest decided to return to China) and 12 of those found employment. For the 2016 graduating class of the MAcc program, 20 out of 33 international students seeking employment reported job offers within 3 months of graduation. Five of this 33 chose to continue their education.

Teaching and Graduate Assistantship opportunities are a form of financial scholarship. These opportunities are not offered for SMF students, but are offered for MAcc students. Graduate Assistants are selected for placement based upon their skills and interests, and how those align with program needs. The Admissions Committee will use your application and interview to determine whether you will be awarded a position. Again, there is not a separate application for consideration of program scholarships. Every admitted student is automatically reviewed for funding consideration and no additional forms are required.
