关于LBS的年限与INSEAD的国际经历

最近几天做了school research, 对欧洲的这两所学校都比较感兴趣。

我的Background ：985 undergraduate, top FMCG 2 yrs financial analyst + 1 yr  luxury brand inhouse strategy, GMAT 760, TOFEL to be taken in Sept，GPA3.2 = =;

我了解到INSEAD比较注重国际的经历，但是目前我没有去国外交流过，也没有长期的外派过，唯一能跟international搭上关系的是一方面工作的两家公司一个美国一个欧洲，另外一方面现在是公司内部一个叫global market consultant team的analyst,会与多个不同国家的consultant交流，是主要的coordinator,因此对于与不同国家的人交流与工作也算比较习惯，出差去过英国，美国和印度。 所以想了解下，缺乏国际经历会不会成为我申请INSEAD的一个key barrier?

此外，LBS的学生整体年纪会比美国大一些，工作年限平均6年。我现在申请的时候才勉强3年，25周岁，这会不会同样成为一个key barrier呢？

我反而覺得你的key barrier是工作經驗.. INSEAD 平均是29歲 除非你可以在你這兩份工作展現很強的Leadership potential / ability to contribute不然 我建議申請這兩所要再多個兩年再來申請比較好

International Exposure 就你的敘述我無法給你太明確的回答 你可以想想看你是否能夠回答INSEAD essay中的 "Tell us about an experience where you were significantly impacted by cultural diversity, in a positive or negative way" (in 300 words) 如果有很多例子可以講 那你的exposure應該很夠 如果想到的例子很少或談得很淺 就代表你還要更多的international exposure. my 2 cents..

So first of all, you have a very nice profile. And a great GMAT! So that’s good.

On the other hand, you are right that your weaknesses are your lack of international experience and your low work experience (for these schools).

I still think you have a shot at both these schools, but I would also suggest that you add more schools to your list that are similar schools (and here you need to tell me your preferences, and I can advise) but basically Oxford and Cambridge and HEC are the next top European schools that come to mind.

Hi Frank,

Very nice to hear from you. I saw you almost everywhere in this forum relentlessly providing your helpful insights, really appreciate that.

I think your recommendation was exactly to the point. I’m interested in general management and consulting, so generally I’d prefer those schools with strong placement in these 2 areas. And after 2 weeks’ school research, I eventually come up with the lists I’m gonna strive for in the 1st round: Wharton, Kellogg, LBS, INSEAD, Darden. Could you let me know your comments on this list?

Also currently I’m preparing for the essay and TOFEL test. Hope you could give me some recommendations with fresh eyes after I complete my draft essays. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the compliments. So first of all, we will be glad to help you out. Drop us a line on our website, and we will. Better to contact us sooner than later, because we can help with so much including school selection and advice about where and when to apply, and which stories to use etc etc. etc. that will save you a lot of time than if you only contact us after the essays are done.

Other than that, to evaluate your school list, I would honestly need more detail. For example your GMAT is amazing! But your GPA is relatively low for a Top 10 program (average is between 3.5-3.7). That and the fact that you come from a tough Chinese pool can make things tougher. But then again, you have good employers. And I need to be able to factor in all other details, including the specifics of your performance.

So best would be to drop us a line, and let’s see how we can work together.
