51 Some people believe that success in life comes from taking risks or chances. Others believe that success results from careful planning. In your opinion, what does success come from?
People can get success in life either by taking risks or chances or by careful planning. In fact, both have merits and shortcomings. Taking risks or chances is a riskier but quicker method, while careful planning is safer but slower. As far as I am concerned, I believe that careful planning is better than taking risks or chances in most cases mainly due to the three reasons as following.
First of all, careful planning is the prerequisite of success, while taking risks or chances is much more possible to lead to failures. As an old Chinese saying goes “plan in the tent, win in thousands miles away”, plan carefully before taking actions promises a positive result. On the contrary, if we don’t study problems well and thus consider carefully, the chance of success will be limited. A case in point is test preparation. Students who plan their review schedule carefully will more likely to get high marks than those who just gamble what will be tested.
Another more subtle reason is that careful planning is the way to find correct solutions to problems. Generally, different people may take different solutions to solve a same question among which some leads to success and others get opposite results. How to find these proper solutions? Careful planning is the answer. Through careful planning, people could analyze different solutions in advance and make right choices.
Furthermore, careful planning could bring confidence to people as almost everything in the problem has been accurately estimated. A survey conducted by a famous business magazine released the fact that 70% of the managers who prefer careful planning are confident about their decisions, however, more than 50% of the managers who take risks or chances in business admit that they are not very positive about final results.
Of course, under certain circumstances, it is better to take risks or chances than careful planning due to time constraint. After all, it is usually better to do something than nothing. However, according to the analysis and reasons provided above, we may safely reach the conclusion that in most cases, success results from careful planning because it is the prerequisite of success, a way to find correct solutions and an upgrade of people’s confidence.
