159. The twentieth century saw great change. In your opinion, what is one change that should be remembered about the twentieth century? Use specific reasons and detail to explain your choice.

As saying goes, ‘science and technology are the first productivity.’ Undoubtedly, in the twentieth century, there a lot of great inventions which have changed our world.  But I think the most important change we still can see today is the invention and application of the airplane. Airplane reduces the distance between different countries, make communications of culture and products more conveniently and frequently, and create more and more employment opportunities all over the world. I will explain my choice as follows:

   First of all, airplane is the fastest traffic tool in the nowadays. For example, it only takes people less than ten hours to fly from china to the US, which is the distance of half the earth’s circumference. While just 100 years ago, Chinese people had to spend several months crossing over the Pacific by ship to arrive in the US , which was a long and severe journey. But after the airplane was invented, traveling have changed completely, which is not only timesaving but also safe and comfortable.

   What’s more, airplane accelerates to change people’s conceptions and make all the world into globalization. People will easily communicate their own native products and culture with people coming from different countries in several hours or a day, which not only change people’s original conceptions about the world and broaden their view about the world, but also improve globally cultural communication and understanding.

   Last but not least, airplane has increased the employment opportunity directly or indirectly. Airplane itself has brought a lot of employment opportunities such as operators and attendants in the airplane, as well as the opportunities in the airplane manufacturing. Indirectly, airplane has been accelerating the flow of products between different countries, which also creates millions of employment opportunities.

   Besides what I have said above, airplane has also been improving the development of military industry such as the invention and application of the fighter plane. But airplanes applied to the peaceful development have changed the world drastically in the 20^th century.
