TWE133(孤独的孩子,你是造物的恩宠)

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A person's childhood years (the time from birth to twelve years of age) are the most important years of a person's life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

The statement that a person’s childhood years are the most critical years of a person’s life tends to remind us of the psychoanalysis of Freud as well as other psychoanalysts. However, even without the help of their complex theories, the importance of a person’s childhood years cannot be diminished. In my opinion, no stage else in a person’s lifetime plays a more important role than childhood, though sometimes the influences are so subtle that people do not notice the impacts.

Childhood years are the most innocent period during which people begin to feel the happiness and sadness of life and establish their basic views about the world. A child’s mind is like a blank slate on which you can make a colorful paint. On the other hand, sometimes dirty dots may taint the blank slate by the carelessness of adults. For example, some children who are exposed to family violence are unhappy and pessimistic with the cold world in their eyes. It might take them great efforts to accept other people’s kindness and love others when they grow up. Unfortunately, these cases are not rare. Many reports on some criminals with an unlucky childhood relate to the loneliness and hurt when they were very young. Admittedly, an unfortunate childhood is not tantamount to an unhappy life, but it does play an important role.

Second, childhood is the best time to learn basic knowledge and form individual interests. Many people are disposed to take Einstein as an example who became a great scientist but was taken as idiot at primary school. At first glance, the example seems to well devaluate the importance of childhood, however, another well known fact omitted here is that Einstein was deeply interested in science and experiments when he was young although his talents were not recognized.

Furthermore, the childhood years often influence the future of a person although most contributions of he or she makes are not during the childhood years. A good case in point is the biographies and autobiographies of famous persons. Why the authors spend so many pages on the childhood even if all the great changes take place in the latter years? The main reason is that what the person saw, heard and thought of often greatly impact what he or she does in the future. The most important rule Benjamin Franklin learned when he was young is the quotation from the Bible, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business?  He shall stand before Kings”, which directly influences his future view toward ethics and economic order.

Although many changes will turn out in different stages of a person’s lifetime, on reflection, he or she would find the childhood years play the most critical rule because he or she was so innocent in those ages, because the world had taught so much and because they had shed so many tears and felt so much happiness which are the basic feelings of a person’s lifetime.
