How to judge a person is a difficult question that needs much experience and wisdom, however, a simple truth lies here: never judge a person by his or her external appearances.
First, how a person looks is not necessarily a reliable indicator of what might be inside. If we judge a person only by external experiences, our conclusion will be superficial even completely wrong. In daily life, people often regard a person with knobby knees, dirty fingernails and unkempt hair as an ill-mannered person. In fact, it may be poverty or something unfortunate that account for his or her appearance now, which cannot deprive the gold inside and noble soul of him or her. On the other hand, some people in decent dresses may treat his family with disrespect and never lend a hand to a beggar in the street.
Another reason why we should not only believe in people’s external appearances is that people often appear differently in different circumstances. A good case in point is the job interviews. If you were a decision maker, could you decide whether the applicant would be accepted by his or external appearance? Perhaps not since it is known that the applicants will try their best to look better in a job interview.
Furthermore, appearances are not totally determined by a person. The kind Quasimodo also hated to have an ugly appearance, fortunately, his integrity and consideration did not be concealed by his appearance in the end. In the real world different from Hugo’s story, God grants some people good looks while gives some unfavorable appearances which cannot be easily changed, however, our internal characters are determined by ourselves.
As the saying goes, “we cannot judge a book by its cover”, we should not judge any person by external appearances which are often a bad indicator of the personalities, deceptive conclusinons and determined by nature.
