D is better since it's more concise and it clearly states what enables the insect to control those things. In Choice C, it's not clear what the gerund phrase modifies.

这里B是不行的wild animals have less total fat than livestock 实际上是拿fat和livestock比较,也就是说wild animals have less total fat than  (wild animals have) livestock .
