Retaking the GMAT – this is only useful if your highest score is below your target school’s median.

......for the candidate who is average in all other respects, a 790 isn’t much different from a 740 from the school’s point of view.......

I seriously doubt it. I asked a similar question to Columbia Assistant Admission officer at the MBA Tour July in Shanghai and he told me if you are right in the middle of the application pool, retake the GMAT for higher score is very logical. why not ?

one is m51v3x 740, the other is m50v4x 760 - you should be able to tell the difference and so should the admission officer.

790和740还是有区别的吧。但是好像听哪个adcomm officer说过，除非提高30分以上，否则没有意义。而且bw: ask columbia admissions上有无数人问过类似问题，710是不是要重考，那个officer说，如果你这样的分数还考的话，我们怀疑，你不能把时间合理利用到更重要的地方。类似这样的话，大家可以看下。不过我觉得这是对美国本土学生，如果对中国人，也许要求会高些？
