Hello there,
So my advice to you is that you stick it out one more year at this leadership position to strengthen your candidacy and that you prepare yourself for a round 1 application next year.

There are three  major reasons why I advise this:
1. Two years experience is usually too low for almost all industries except banking. For IT this is exceptionally true.
2. You haven’t taken your GMAT yet. There is basically now ay for you to properly prepare the best GMAT you can get and do your essays before Round 2 deadlines. And Round 3 is no good for international applicants
3. You may not be happy at your work, but your leadership WILL make your profile stronger.

So I would say not only stick it out, but make sure you perform SUPER well this coming year, and then apply next September.

I hope this makes sense.

Best,
Jon Frank

Woo! Jon! It's my great pleasure to get your reply!

Yeah, true. I am planing to apply MBA in 2016 round 1 and I will take the GMAT test in Jan 2016.

I totally agree with you that it is the best choice if I can perform super well during 1st half year in 2016 while I can have enough time to prepare GMAT and Essay etc.

However, I am afraid that I may not have the ability to achieve both goals at the same time. If I must abandon one of them, which one you will advise?

In addition, I am working in the IT dept of an IB. Will this background be helpful if I apply the MBA with nearly 3 years W/E in 2016?

Thanks a lot for your help and time.

Hey there,
What can I say but that you will have a very tough year!!!
Since you have plenty of time you can spread your GMAT study over 4-5 months and as long as you take it by the end of March you should be fine. I know it will be tough, but plenty of other IB people who work 12-14 hour days do it too!!! So one year of tough work and then you can party like crazy in B-school!!! Hahahah.

But whatever you do, don’t lower your boss’ expectations now!!! You want everyone’s strong support for your MBA application and the best results and reviews possible.

I know it’s hard but you can do it!!!
Best,
Jon Frank
