Whether children should spent most of their time on school studies or playing is a hot topic in our society. Different people hold different opinions due to their distinct backgrounds. As far as I am concerned, I would probably agree with the latter one. In the following discussion, I would like to reason and provide evidence to support my viewpoint.
The first and most significant reason that we can not neglect is that children can learn much more in playing. As we know, in playing games, children can learn how to create things and how to solve problems by themelves. These abilities can not be obtained from textbooks. For example, in some sports exercises, such as playing soccer, children should master the skills to understand others’ thoughts and cooperate with other team members to reach the goal. This kind of “team spirits” is very essential for the children’s future study and career. I think there is no better example than this one to demonstrate my point more clearly.
Another head and chief reason that I have chosen to put here is that children can get much more enjoyment from playing, which is beneficial to their study. In order to see this, let us see an example: when my six- year-old daughter studied in China, she always did her homework till 9:00 pm at night every day. She felt it was very boring and lost interest in study. Now she is in Canada, most of her time is playing, even during her class time. She feels very happy and at the same time, she has become quite interested in exploring new knowledge. If you can see this, you can understand it more deeply.
Admittedly, there is no denying that children also should study hard to form a solid foundation for their future life because childhood is the most important period for people to absorb more knowledge. However, this alone does not lend strong support to weaken what I have supported. When advantages and disadvantages are carefully examined, the most striking conclusion is obvious.
In sum, taking into account all the factors discussed above, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive, we can safely come to the conclusion that children should spend most of their time playing not only because they can learn more skills but also they can get more recreation from playing.
