这道题当时我也选错了，我选的是C。MM问的问题我在大全里面找了一个有类似情况的：

我觉得这里是说，discovery的结果导致了double，正如上面的例子中说的一样，是mechanization of farming 导致了double这个结果，如果用figurines做主语的话，应该是the number of figurines，对吧？
