我也在思考这个问题，struggle了很久。虽然还是不是很懂E到底在表达什么。但是可以确定的是B一定是对的。
就像OG解释的，argument中说的是单靠talking to other people就可以保持大脑聪慧，而不至于变笨。
方向是talking to other people对大脑聪明度的影响。
而B选项说的是大脑变得不聪明以后，talking的能力也变弱了。变成了大脑不聪明从而导致talking受影响。
这样的话逻辑方向就反了，也就weaken了argument中的conclusion。

【Stimulus分析】     CP:  It  is  widely  assumed  that  people  need  to  engage  in  intellectual  activities  such  as  solving   crossword  puzzles  or  mathematics  problems  in  order  to  maintain  mental  sharpness  as  they  age.     C:  In  fact,  however,  simply  talking  to  other  people—that  is,  participating  in  social  interaction,  which   engages  many  mental  and  perceptual  skills—suffices.     P1:  Evidence  to  this  effect  comes  from  a  study  showing  that  the  more  social  contact  people  report,   the  better  their  mental  skills.

【题型特点】     题型：weaken题型。   特点：把选项当做已知条件带入stimulus一并进行推理，可以接受选项的新信息，正确答案可以是或多或少 的对stimulus的论证进行weaken。遇到和原文相冲突的选项则是正确答案。着手点是去寻找Logical  gap或 者weak  spot。    
【思维路径】     本文Conclusion当中涉及到了因果关系，作者认为是社交互动（因）导致精神能力提高（果）。     Weaken这种因果关系的正确选项可以是：1.  提出造成果的他因。  2.  说明因和果并不同时发生，或者不同 时消失。  3.  提出因果倒置的可能性，是“果”导致了“因”，或者说明果先于因发生。    
【选项分析】  
  A．“当人们变老，他们常常被建议去训练身体机能和精神能力，来保持和提高他们。”首先，被建议去训 练不代表人们会真正去训练。其次，即使人们真的去参加训练了，这也和Conclusion当中的因果无直接相关。
  B．正确。“很多损害人得精神机能的治疗会导致人的社交孤立。”说明并不是社交活动让人精神锐利，而 是精神的损害会减少社交活动，换句话说，精神健康的人就会有更多社交。这是因果倒置，Weaken原文推 理。 
  C．“很多人同时精通社交和解决数学难题。”未涉及到果，和原文无直接关系。 
  D．“此次研究没有搜集数据，而是基于以前研究的相关数据来分析的。”结论的可信度虽然和支撑数据的 可靠性直接相关，但是因为不能直接确认以前的数据准确或者不准确，因此不能直接判断这次研究的数据是 否准确，也不能判断对原推理的影响作用。   E．“试验所参照的对精神机能的衡量的任务更类似于数学题目，而非交流。”衡量精神机能的题目标准和 因果关系无直接关联。题目标准不管是什么，终反映的都是精神机能的好坏，这是（果）确立的过程。但 是因果关系所关注的只是（因）（果）是否发生，这是一个终结果。因果关系并不关注确立（果）的过程。 因此此答案无关。

我开始也想的是E 后来看答案上说证据证明是数学导致的mental sharpness并不矛盾，因为本来数学跟社交就都能导致mental sharpness。所以conclusion 不受影响

因果倒置削弱法，evidence表明：社交越多，精神越好。那么因果倒置削弱之：精神越好，社交才越多，同理，精神不好了，社交就孤立了

多谢解答，我这题也是卡了很就，一看到三种对于因果关系题的weaken 方式我就豁然开朗了。

也在同一时间明白了JJ 里的一道因果关系要求加强的题目。题目表示 A -->B，找加强，构筑找的是非B-->A ! 本来不明白，现在真是一通百通了。

在gmatclub看到关于选项E是strengthener的解释，不是特别理解。有没有小伙伴能给解释一下呢？
如下：

Let's put it in simple terms:

Say I tell you:
People believe that solving Math maintains mental sharpness. But actually social interaction is enough. A study showed that people with more social activity have better mental skills.

Now, A says, " Mental skills were measured by checking language skills."
and B says, "Mental skills were measured by checking Math skills."

- who is strengthening my argument and who is weakening it?

A is weakening my argument since if mental skills were measured by language skills, obviously people with more social activity will report higher skills. It doesn't need to imply that social interactions lead to sharper mental skills. If all you are going to check is how well people can interact, the study will show that social people will have higher mental skills.

B strengthens my argument that social activity actually increases even the quantitative ability - which is probably one of the measures of mental skills. Hence, it does make my argument stronger that social activity is enough to improve mental skills - no matter how you measure mental skills.

Option (E) says what B says in my example. Hence it is not a weakener; it is, perhaps, a wee bit of a strengthener.
