machinegun,
Thanks for your reply.
"your achievements should be in direct proportion with you age. Otherwise, it is hard for the school to find your potentials. I guess that you will face the same challenge no matter which school you apply."
- In my opinion, to apply for a MBA program, what you've achieved so far is not that important, what do you think about MBA and rational/motivation of why you want to apply is far more important...
From school's admission perspective, to determine an applicant's potential, I would say they rather than looking at your achievements, they pay more attention to your academic skills by looking at your GMAT and other test scores and use these ones as an indicator to judge your potentials. What they really concerned is to make sure the applicant has the potential to complete the program successfully, and they also look at your leadership,(you don't have to be a big boss in order to get admitted into the program). We've seen many applicants with only 3 or 4 years experience or even less got admitted to MBA programs. I wouldn't think a typical admission staff try to find some achivements in an applicant's 1 or 2 pages long resume/essay, and I believe they're not using dual standard to evaluate the applicants' applications. Besides, many applicants with completely different background rather than business or management are hoping/planning to change their career path by completing a MBA program which implies that the experience/achivements they have may or may not helpful to his new plan. As I know, some people came from a pure technical background to study MBA, and got a job in Wall Street doing banking after graduation...
As an applicant who needs to have good enough reasons and strong enough academic skills to let them(admission office) believe you're the right candidate, as you said, age should not be a negative factor.
People come to MBA program is not because they already have amazing achievements, it is because they want to achieve something big in their (near) future - this is what the admission people really interested in.
"My advice is that: show your commitment to Chicago GSB, your uniqueness of your career path, and your ambition and diligency."
- I totally agree.
cheers.
