Hey Machinegun(nice ID, though),

I currently work in Chicago and I am leveraging the options bewteen full time program and part time. To your view, what would be the most obvious disavantages of a part MBA (especially in the job hunting arena)? Further more, what are the odds of a successful transfer from part time to full time? Many thanks!

Hi fxjk,

Thanks for your email.

You are right. The major disadvantage of the part-time MBA program is that PT MBA can not get quite involve in the job seeking process. In other words, they cannot attend the companies' on campus presentations, which is the major method that we full-time establish networking with the recruiters.

To your second question: PT MBA cannot transfer to FT MBA program now.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Hi, machinegun,

I have read through all your posts, which are very informative... Thanks for all your efforts!

My situation is a little bit complex. Even today I
have not taken GMAT yet (will take in this Feburary) and apply right
way, so I have to apply for PT MBA since I do not want to wait one more
year to my dream career path. I will give up my current job in the
investment management firm, relocate and take all my efforts and
resources for the program. But as you mentioned "The major disadvantage
of the part-time MBA program is that PT MBA can not get quite involve
in the job seeking process. In other words, they cannot attend the
companies' on campus presentations", is that also true for UChicago
GSB? Is that mean I cannot even attend on-campus recruitment or submit
resume in career service system even if I work and just study as a
full-time student?

Also, after graduation, I would like to go back
China or Hong Kong. Are there many MNC or finance-related companies
recruit for Chinese/HK branches? How many people go back each year? and
what are their positions, companies, and backgrounds? etc.

    Thanks a lot!

Hi Dtiger,

As a part-time student, you cannot participate the FT intern/career seeking. However, I have no comments on the PT intern/career arrangement. I could ask my PT friends and get more info of your concern.

Many students go back to Greater China recently. Banks and consulting firms in Asia Pacific area are recruiting heavily in GSB. Most of the positions for MBA graduates are in associate level in banks and consulting firms. I have no idea about the position and pay level for MNCs(for corporate jobs I mean). However, some of the MNCs do have a global pay( or say adjusted global pay ) for MBAs in mainland China.

Good luck!
