097 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn. Give specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Whether teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn is a hot topic in our society. Different people hold different opinions due to their distinct backgrounds. As far as I am concerned, I do disagree with the title statement. In the following discussion, I would like to reason and provide evidence to support my viewpoint.
The first and most significant reason that we can not neglect is that there is no a uniform standard to evaluate how much the students learn. As we know, the most common way for teachers to see how much their students learn is examination; however, if the teachers paid according to this, there must be some arguments about it, because the exams might be easy or difficult. For example, when I was in middle school, I studied in an advanced class; my teacher was very strict with us. In order to help us understand the knowledge, my teacher often let us has very hard exams. Sometimes, even most of us could not pass the exam. On the contrary, the exams in other classes were very easy to pass. That didn’t show that my teacher was not qualified. I think there is no better example than this one to demonstrate my point more clearly.
Another head and chief reason that I have chosen to put here is that the students should bear much more pressure if the teachers paid according to how much they learn. In order to see this clearly, let us see an example: the teachers would ask the students to do more homework and learn as much knowledge as they can so as to enable them to earn much more money. At the same time, the students would have less time to relax; they should work hard to ensure their teachers to get higher payments. If you can see this, you can understand it more deeply.
Admittedly, there is no denying that how much the students learn can reflect their teachers’ qualifications in some conditions, such as the numbers of students that entered into the universities, yet this alone does not lend strong support to weaken what I have supported. Therefore, the most striking conclusion is obvious.
In sum, taking into account all the factors discussed above, I believe that teachers should not be paid according to how much their students learn not only because there is no a uniform standard to evaluate how much the students learn but also because the students should bear much more pressure. I suggest that schools should do an overall assessment of a teacher.
