What will you study in the United States?

Applied financial mathematics. A quantitative field of financial management. A very promising major in China.

How long will you study in USA?

I will study in USA for almost 2 years. So I will not leave China for a long time.

Have you any scholarship?

No. But my parents will support my study. They want me to receive the best education.

What is your plan? What will you do after graduation?

I have drawn a sketch of my plan, would you like to see?

At the first step, after I graduate, I will work in the Chinese branches of international investment banks or commercial banks to do financial analysis; And I will get my PhD. degree of finance from FuDan university. In this way, I will deeply analyze the financial environment of China and combine my knowledge tightly with practical work. I plan to achieve this goal before the age of thirty.

At the second step, I want to become the senior manager of my company as well as creating some practical methods and theories of financial analysis suitable for China. So I will establish my reputation in this field. I plan to achieve this goal before the age of 35.

At the third step, I want to become the CFO of my company, attend many international conferences, such as Global Fortune Forum. Also, I will write some books about financial analysis, become a visiting professor of universities and become the advisor of the Chinese government. I plan to achieve this goal before the age of 45.

Give me three reasons that you will come back to China?

I base my career development in China. It is the best place. And, I will get a satisfied job to live a comfortable life. The most important is I can enjoy the happiness of staying with my family, my parents, my relatives, etc.

Why do you like your major?

I like to do quantitative analysis. And this major is very promsing in China. Studying it is a foundation to realize my career plan.

Why do you want to study in USA?

I can receive the best education of financial mathematics. This is a significant foundation to realize my career plan.

GOOD LUCK!

What will you study in the United States?

A quantitative field of financial management Why do you want to study applied financial mathematics?

Why do you want to study in USA?

because XXX university gives me an admission and a scholarship. XXX university gives me an admission.

How long will you study in USA?

I will study in USA for almost 2 years. So I will not leave China for a long time.

Have you any scholarship?

No. But my parents will support my study. They want me to receive the best education. Would you like to see the bank statement?

What is your plan? What will you do after graduation?

I have drawn a sketch of my plan, would you like to see?

After graduation, I will  come back to China to find a job in a financial institution/company/a bank. I hope, before 35, I can become a senior manager of the company.

1. If you want PH.D, why you don't get it in U.S. and why you have to get it in Fudan? If you really want to do this, tell you what, it's a very unquie case, VO usually don't believe it.

2. "I will work in Chinese investmetn banks...I want to be Sr. manager...I want to be CFO" you didn't indicate how you can achieve those goals. Everybody can say "I wanna be this, I wanna be that..", but how, and why? This two questions will lead to the assessment about wheher those goals are concrete and you are really on the track towards them, or they are just your dreams. I am not encouraging to extend the article of "plan", rather, you should summarize your plan in 2 to 3 sentences such as:"My short-term goal after graduation is...because.... and the two years' education and life experience in XXX will definitely help me to achieve..."

3. I don't know whether you threw out your plan in a piece of paper to VO, or you expressed it verbally. If in paper, you know what, 1) VO will not look at it, 2) VO will think you cannot even summarize your plan in one or two sentences and spit it out right away, after all, that's the whole idea why you want to go to US for that degree. If you did talk your plan to VO, see my comment 4.

4. From the way you described your plan, you appear not be mature enough to really fulfill that career path. Be a CFO is not so much like attending international forum, or publishing some books. Don't take me wrong that I think you are indeed immature, you're probably matured and ambitious. But the way you convey your idea is rigid and lack of variation - "first step, send, third..." "I plan to achieve this goal by age of ..." Life is not somehow so predictable, how fast you can succeed in your career sometime largely depends on the opportunity you get. Defining the age for your future goal is just for your own good, it will not impress VO, unless when you are 40 and say, "by 20, I finished my PH.D, by 30, I became the CFO of..., and now I am running this successful business I started 5 years ago..." So you need to re-think your plan, be realistic, at least to VO, and be concise.

5. You really need to give 3 good reasons to VO that you will come back to China. "Good reason" doesn't mean long reason, but something sounds reasonable and tangible. Why VO particularly asked for 3 reasons? Because VO wants you to itemize those reasons, and list out the top 3. So think about the most compelling (also will be most convincing) reasons, will that be family affection, will that be a business plan in China, will that be the plan that you can earn the return for education cost more quickly in China than in US (usually that's not true, at least for short-term), or maybe you think for the long-term, the education in U.S. will pay off more greatly in China?

It's frustating to be rejected in visa, but think it over and do more self-assessment. The hard work will finally pay off, maybe not just for the visa.

Good luck!
