It doesn't matter that you are engineer, scientist or accountant. Any background is valuable. But it's very competitive to enter IB to get a high-paid job, such as trader, broker or doing M&A. It's hard to distinguish a person from innumerous candidates by background. And it's easier to make judgement by your school ranking, by interview, and by whether you already had IB experience.
But to my knowledge, multiple examples run counter your third criterion. Too many people got into this field with seemingly irrelevent formal exposure to IB. A Chinese girl who majored in computer and is of a part-time MBA in Chicago GSB has been recruited by Morgan Stanley. One of my friends who even has no MBA training reran the same play. So i think IB experience is not a must automatically adding you a favorable edge in the competition. |
