the fact you're 32 will not be what gets you in, or keep you out, of IB. It's your background, skill sets (hard and soft), determination and luck. Think carefully if IB is what you want to do. Do you like the type of work, AND the life style? If so, go for it. Age won't stop you, your mind will. Good luck!

Anyway, you will be 34 two years later. Either you live a life as usual without dramatical change, or you go to a top school to spend your time, effort & money to exchange new experiences and more opportunities. I think the later choice is more attractive. But suggest you don't think too much about IB unless you are already a IB veteran.

You mean the former experience in other industry will not assist to such a transforming? Say, a IT insider, a real-estate developer, or simply an bio-engineer, will their expertise not be valued in such routine business in IB as merge and acuisation ? Frankly, i think IB should welcome more insiders from other territory since long-term busniss vision most possibly grow out of professional insight.

An example for you: one of my professors at Tuck still encourages his wife to apply to B-schools. She is already 40 years old, now preparing for the GMAT.

At Tuck, it is not unusual to see my classmates (including Chinese students) go to IB at their 30s.  Their previous experiences are very diversified (telecom, pharma, nonprofit, etc.)  But what they share in common is their commitment to the investment banking industry and their strong network skills.

It doesn't matter that you are engineer, scientist or accountant. Any background is valuable. But it's very competitive to enter IB to get a high-paid job, such as trader, broker or doing M&A. It's hard to distinguish a person from innumerous candidates by background. And it's easier to make judgement by your school ranking, by interview, and by whether you already had IB experience.
