Phd in IS, UTD or LSU?

for the graduate placement, I would say UTD. I am not very sure about IS, but as to accouting, the graduates can be placed to tier of Georgia State U., Hong Kong Polytech. etc.

UTD ranks 27th by the US News & World Report (2006) in IS, but itsoverall ranking is quite low, maybe about 150. Plus, its a younguniversity, so I am kind of hesitated.

For Ph.D program, the reputation and visibility of the department is much more important than the overall shcool ranking. As far as I know, the IS faculty of UTD is very active in the MIS community of United States, the professors are really research productive, and serve on many editorial borads. ( you can find the publication record in their website) The IS Ph.D students have been placed in some good universtities recently, such as Tulane, Georgia Tech, Universtiy of British Columbia, University of Washington and Universtiy of Albert. So if you want to compare the IS department of UTD and LSU, I would say UTD is definitely better. They are not on the same level.

thanks, huangpen, it seems that you have also talked to the director inthe IS department at UTD, cuz we got the same info regarding itsstudents' replacement.

BTW, to my knowledge, you were also admitted to UTD and I suppose thatyou have received the official admission letter this Friday. Will yougo to UTD this fall or do you have other choices?

I am not going to UTD. I've rejected it. I hate hot weather.

I will go to its Accounting Dept for Phd. I choose it from 5 offers.

go to UT Dallas. they publish more in IS.

i have also received admission letter from Temple University, but thefinancial assistance decision has not been made yet. Does anyone knowMIS department at Temple?

I have applied for PhD in IS in LSU, but I am now in waiting-list. The department said a prospective student in particular had not respond to their email. You might be the prospective student. I want to know whether you decide to accept the offer or not. The department said if you reject the offer, I will be considered.
