Don't be misled by these numbers. They are all CONDITIONAL on the assumption that you can land a job. But it is not easy to for a finance phd to get a job if you are not from good school. I know quite a few phds who have to extend their study becauee they have not got a job. This is quite like the statistics of MBA. they always say their students get XX,000 salary on average. but they don't mention how many students have not got a job. if including these students, the average salary would be much lower.

U Michigan - Tier 1
UT Austin - Tier 2 upper level , or probably Tier 1 lower level as someone sees it.
