Sorry about the wrong copy of Michigan, it should be:

The first thing that comes to mind about Michigan

"Solid citizens, down to earth"
"Automotive engineers"
"Generalists"

How Michigan could improve its reputation

"Lessen automobile-company emphasis"
"Focus on teaching communication skills to students"
"Lose middle-manager reputation"

Since MIT and Stanford rank relatively low in WSJ ranking ( I know it sounds ridiculous), there is no comment (at least I can't find anything) in WSJ website.
