As far as I know, BW makes the B-school ranking based on the feedback from recruiters and students.  What makes Cornell jump to No.7 in 2004 BW ranking is that Cornell improved the satisfaction of recruiters.  Specifically, Cornell alumni provided the private jets for free to transport the recruiters to the campus.  I actually think Cornell will remain its good position in BW because its location might not be a big problem any more.  Starting from this year the local airport (15 min drive to Cornell) has much more flights connected to major cities.

As for FT and US news rankings, GMAT and GPA play roles in those rankings.  So, if schools pick up students with high GMAT and GPA, they can easily improve their rankings.

FT does not consider GMAT and GPA at all, and in US News, GMAT accounts for 25%*65%=16% and GPA accounts for 25%*30%=7.5%

If what you said is correct, I will put more weight on BW. Once you get in a school, the GMAT and GPA does not play any role in your future anymore. The alummi network and the job prospect are much more important. Just my own view.

The absolute ranking of each school is not informative, in my opinion. It varies from year to year, magazine to magazine. Instead, I will look which tier the school belongs to. For instance, M7 schools (H/S/W/K/Chi/Columbia/MIT) are consistenly clustered in top 10 in most rankings, though you may see a school ranks #4 in one magazine but #8 in the other one. I'll bet recruiters don't know if school X ranks #10 in BW and #7 in USNews. If he's experienced, he already knows which tier the school belongs.

GMAT/GPA will still matter in recruiting for IB and consulting jobs. Recruiters will ask for GMAT and GPA at least as a data point. This doesn't mean a 2.8 GPA will automatically shut anyone out of his dream job at McK. But when all things are considered, it still matters.

To be honest, as an MBA student, I don't think any ranking make a big difference to individual. I discussed this issue with some professions and employers. They think, in the U.S., as ordinary people, you past experience and intelligence make difference. Yesterday, a partner from Big 5 told us that “an MBA degree doesn’t necessarily make you smarter or more qualified…simply, it creates a different set of expectations.”
