Some people think that children should begin their formal education at a very early age and should spend most of their time on school studies. Others believe that young children should spend most of their time playing. Compare these two views. Which view do you agree with? Why?
The education of young children has always been a very controversial question. What are they supposed to focus on? School studies or playing? Different people hold different views about it.
Some people believe that children should begin their formal education at a very early age and that school studies should occupy most of their time. Of course, various researches have come to a conclusion that a young child can obtain new things in an amazing speed. Therefore, many parents who are so anxious about their baby boys and girls’ future take advantage of this ability, forcing their children to study at a very early age. However, beginning formal education too early may restrict children’s development of imagination. Moreover, the pressure of school studies will probably leave those young children a dim memory of their childhood.
Other people hold the opinion that children should spend most of their time playing. Actually, in the course of playing a game, children can learn a large amount of knowledge. For example, when playing with a puzzle, they form a sense of logical thinking; when playing with model cars, the ability of creativity is developed. Another point beneficial to young children is that in such relaxing learning environment, just the opposite to the one of formal education, they can fully enjoy the learning process. Besides, their imagination and creativity are sure to be developed to the full.
In conclusion of the discussion above, I personally hold the view that children should spend most of their time playing because they can learn through playing and their childhood would be full of happiness. But formal education is dull and will retard a child’s normal development of imagination and creativity.
