83,Journalist:In physics journals, the number of articles reporting the results of experimentsi nvolving particle
accelerators was lower last year than it had been in previous years.Several of the particle accelerators at major research institutions were out of service the year before last for repairs,so it is likely that the low number of articles was due to the decline inavailability of particle accelerators.
Which of the following,if true, most seriously undermines the journalist's argument?

(A)Every article based on experiments with particle accelerators that was submitted for publication last year
actually was published.
(B)The
average time  scientists must wait for access to aparticle accelerato rhas declined over the last
several years.
(C) The number of physics journals was the samelast year as in previous years.
(D) Particle accelerators can be used for more thanone group of experiments in any given year.
(ERecent changes in the editorial policies ofseveral physics journals have decreased thelikelihood that articles concerning particle acceleratorresearch will be accepted for publication.E

Commentator: The theory of trade retaliation statesthat countries closed out of any of another country’smarkets should close some of their own markets tothe other country in order to pressure the othercountry to reopen its markets. If every country actedaccording to this theory, no country would trade withany other.
The commentator’s argument relies on which of thefollowing assumptions?

(A) No country actually acts according to the theoryof trade retaliation.

(B) No country should block any of its markets toforeign trade.

(C) Trade disputes should be settled by internationaltribunal.

(D)For any two countries, at least one has somemarket closed to the other.D

(E) Countries close their markets to foreigners toprotect domestic producers.

104.Although the discount stores in Gorevilles centralshopping district are expected to close within fiveyears as a result of competition from a SpendLessdiscount department store that just opened, thoselocations will not stay vacant for long. In the five yearssince the opening of Colsons, a nondiscountdepartment store, a new store has opened at thelocation of every store in the shopping district thatclosed because it could not compete with Colsons.Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakensthe argument?
(A) Many customers of Colsons are expected to doless shopping there than they did before theSpendLess store opened.
(B) Increasingly, the stores that have opened in thecentral shopping district since Colsons openedhave been discount stores.B
(C) At present, the central shopping district has asmany stores operating in it as it everhad.
(D) Over the course of the next five years, it isexpected that Gorevilles population will grow ata faster rate than it has for the past severaldecades.
(E) Many stores in the central shopping district selltypes of merchandise that are not available ateither SpendLess or Colsons.

A推B。
