Some people think that government should spend as much money as possible on developing or buying computer technology. Other people disagree and think that this money should be spent on more basic needs. Which one of these opinions do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to support you answer.

 

As computer are increasingly being used in various fields. Computer technology has gained more and more recognition. As such, many people think that government should spend as much money as possible on developing or buying computer technology. However, other people oppose to this and believe that this money should be spent on more basic needs. As far as I’m concerned, I’m in favor of the former opinion because of the reason to be elaborated below.

Computer technology promotes the development of many fields. We take China developing atomic bomb as an example, China decided to produce atomic bomb in 1956. At that time, no computers were developed in China. However, doing research work on atomic bomb has to calculate a lot of data. Hence, Tsinghua
                    University arranged hundreds of teachers to calculate data with Chinese old calculators, abacuses. And every calculation needed several hundreds teachers’ a few hours work. The efficiency is very low. Now, we just need a large computer to calculate, and computer spends much less time than abacuses. In fact, we stopped the experiment of atomic bomb several years ago. Nevertheless, calculating is still needed by many programs such as sending satellites and building a dam. Scientists use computer to calculate instead of several hundreds persons and abacuses. As computer great calculating power, calculating data is not barrier to do research. Human could focus on research work without worry about data calculating. So computer technology is an important factor to speed up the development of fields such as physics, chemistry, agriculture, education and business.  

Developing computer technology could promote developments of many fields, and whole country people’s lives will be improved. Satisfying basic needs is also important, however, it doesn’t benefit whole country people. Government should spend as much money as possible on developing or buying computer technology
