逻辑里的一句话翻译，求助

这句话怎么翻译，尤其是红字的地方怎么理解呢？“尝试了却没成功”，还是“预计不会成功，却成功了”？

纠结的是，为什么英语里面有那么多句子或者词组，我都能理解成相反的意思。这是英汉转换必然会常常遇到的问题吗？
