其实这两个词组都可以用，而且意思差不多，只是一个是形容词介词结构，一个是形容词名词结构。这里跟句子的结构有关，插入成分修饰解释areas，我觉得还是用A比较好。

I think this sentence is a reduced one and the complete sentence is :
1:     Areas of fertitle soil called deltas, ( which are) usually    triangular in shape , are formed by mud deposited at the mouth of a river.
Or
2: Areas of fertitle soil called deltas, ( which are )usually the triangualar shape , are formed by mud deposited at the mouth of a river.


both 1 and 2 are correct sentences.



Therefore,    the correct answer is     A .                     if B change into " a/the triangular shape" , B would be correct, too.
