Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A person's childhood years (the time from birth to twelve years of age) are the most important years of a person's life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. While it is true that we learn and develop throughout our lives, it is during childhood that we learn the most essential things and develop the most important qualities. Therefore, I agree that the time from birth to twelve years of age is the most important years of a person’s life because people’s basic characteristics are formed during these years. Many significant skills are taught in childhood; children are easier to educate. It is during childhood that our basic characters are formed. The values we are taught and the experience we have/encounter during childhood will affect us for the rest of our lives. For example, if we learn the values of kindness and honesty at an early age we will likely become kind and honest adults. In other words, the way we learn to behave as children will become our automatic behaviours (ingrained behaviours) in adulthood. Therefore, the foundation of our basic character is formed during childhood. A person’s childhood years are the most important years of a person's life not only because people’s basic characters are formed during these years but also because many significant skills are taught in the childhood. Our many basic skills, such as standing, running, or speaking, are taught when we are very young, and these skills are significant to our existence. As for me, I learned how to use chopsticks when I was young, and I continue to repeat this action daily without having to think about how it is done. As a result, using chopsticks as a tool for eating becomes an essential skill during daily life. Thus, skills taught at an early age are important. Moreover, children are easier to educate. A child’s brain is like an absorbent sponge, and this means children have a better ability to acquire knowledge. As we know, a child finds it easier to study foreign languages than an adult, so we can enable our children to easily learn more foreign languages rather than struggling to learn them when they become adults. Therefore, children are more educable. To sum up, for the reasons above, I believe that a person's childhood years are the most important years of a person's life. However, we can not neglect the importance of studying in the high school or university when children grow up. The more attention paid to children, the stronger they will grow.
