Overview of BTO
McKinsey & Company’s Business Technology practice is one of the fastest growing practices within McKinsey. It offers professionals an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of business and technology. Launched in 1997, the practice has built a global presence with more than 720 consultants from over 50 countries. We are now seeking exceptional business professionals with a passion for technology to join our offices in Beijing, Shanghai, HongKong and Shenzhen.
Examples of our client work:
Financial Services. We worked with one of the world’s leading banks based in the region to define their digital strategy. The work included understanding the latest technology trends, identifying new opportunities, and aligning the organisation to achieve these targets. We worked daily with the CIO and his top team to help develop scenarios and shape our answers.
Telecommunications. We helped a leading telecom operator in South East Asia to develop its overall mobile multichannel distribution and service delivery and implementation strategy, to generate additional source of revenue while better engaging with subscribers. The work included overall strategy development to assess market entry and attractiveness, pricing for specific advertising channels and products, high level technical architecture design and building organizational capabilities to support this new business.
Transport and Logistics. We helped a leading Asian airline to become a leader in e-commerce sales, selling much more than just the flight ticket. The work included understanding and shaping the business strategy, including overcoming current barriers (internal and market) to greater e-commerce adoption, and understanding the potential of the technology solutions.
High-Tech. Digital enterprise work is critical to shaping corporate strategies and product and-service roadmaps for industries facing substantial change in the face of evolving digital trends. We helped a growth- oriented technology company identify critical business capabilities and offerings that were at risk from changing digital trends, and helped them reassign priorities and investments to critical digital business levers.
Desired Skills and Experience
1. A history of strong academic performance, preferably having attended top tier schools 2. 3-8 years of professional work experience within a technology company, a technology consulting firm, in a general consulting firm with a focus on technology, or within a high performing corporate technology department 3. Deep expertise in such industries as financial services, high-tech, telecommunications, travel & logistics, manufacturing, energy, retail, Auto and Advanced Industry 4. Solid functional knowledge and experience, including but not limited to IT strategy consulting, application development, enterprise application, IT architecture, networks, business process outsourcing, E-enablement, e-commerce and e-business. 5. A broad understanding of current technology trends, their impact on business strategies, and their implications for senior management in creating and sustaining competitive advantage and transforming business 6. Exceptional problem-solving ability. Irrespective of your degree or experience, you should excel at solving problems that require logical reasoning, creative thinking, comfort with numbers, and the ability to untangle complex issues 7. Demonstrated leadership within or outside a work setting. You should be someone who frequently takes initiative and is eager to break new ground - as seen through leadership role 8. Demonstrated career trajectory - evidence of taking on larger responsibilities and/or more senior roles 9. Other intrinsic skills such as strategic management perspective, strong interpersonal and communication skills. 10. Candidates with fluency in both English and Mandarin
