Offer from De Montfort University in UK

Hi,

Just received a PhD offer in accounting from DMU. I would like to ask whether the quality of this university in accounting is ok? I do not mean whether it is excellent like Harvard or Oxford, but just whether this university is recognized globally. Does anyone study the PhD in DMU? Would you please give me some advice?

It is just a local university in the UK, and I suppose the ad you got from DMU is a part-time PhD or DBA, right? Beside, to my understanding, top HK universities generally look for PhDs from good US universities and top UK universities, says G5 plus Warwick, maybe Manchester as well. So holding a doctoral degree from DMU will be very hard to find a ap position in good HK uni (I am not saying it is impossible). I dont mean to discourage you, but to be honest, DMU is not a good choice.But it also depends on your supervisor. If he has good networking or he is moving to a better university, then you may still be able to find an academic job in the UK!

DMU 学校建的确实挺漂亮的  但是这学校就fashion NB  其他的就算了... 你来了 应该会后悔...  建议别来.. 换学校吧

在国内随便找个有会计博士点的学校读个博士，出来都不会比你说的这个学校差。

这个学校毕业去香港那几所公立大学做ap都很困难。如果你需要这个博士头衔做香港的lecturer，比如说你们头以前卡你，说“你必须要拿个博士，无论哪里，拿来就好，就让做lecturer"，我觉得可以试试。如果不是这样，真没必要这样做，毕竟自己还要负担学费。英国很多还不错的学校都可以part time读博士，你目前有全职工作，不急的话可以接着往上申申，如york, manchester之类，我知道有香港做教职的人远程读这些学校的phd。但我不知道这几个学校有没有accounting phd program.

Hi, it is not fully funded. I need to pay  for the tuition but I can work in Hong Kong with a full time job and will fly to UK to see my supervisor in June.

I want to be a researcher in the future like assistant professor but I dont have to be an assistant professor in a very top university. Getting this position is good enough. I hope it will hope

I was rejected from CUHK for full time porgramme but I can only study a part-time programme now

why not get a phd in cuhk then? It is much better than the school you were talking about.

If it's fully funded I think it doesn't hurt to take it.

But is it gonna help with anything at all?  Do you wannt to do research or teach?

Yes, I applied for 30 US universities but none of them accepts me...... I suck.....

For DMU, I do not need to study full time there, but I can have a full time work in Hong Kong, but fly to UK once each year to see my supervisor.

Up to now, I do not have another choice. ......
