Background: domestic 985 schools(ranking 9-12) Bachelor of Engineering. GPA:3.3   new GMAT: 730/5/5.  TOEFL: 109.   6yrs working experiences in Software Development in Telecom Industry(Two north-America renowned Companies in telecom industry).

Want to pursue managerial positions(people or product or strategy) in technological companies(internet, telecom, electronics, etc.) in US after I get MBA degree.

Question: I'm an old man(age 29) with only high aspiration of going to work with the world's talents in high-tech filed,  inspiring them and being inspired, defining, building team to create and market high-tech products,  which MBA in US fits me?

Should I consider CMU(Tepper), UT@Austin, Georgia Tech and UW@Seattle(Foster) as my dream schools?  or they are too good for a guy like me to apply? Any other program?

Thank you!

Set your goal high. Show your passion in your essay. Cisco and Qualcomm are very decent names even compared with leading consulting and banking firms. Lucent used to be, while Broadcom, Avaya and Junipter are kinda less of so, but still are solid stat.

Generally agree with 斑点狗,Ross/Duke/Haas would be perfect fit for you. Sloan might be a bit hard dut to very few seats and its preference for consultants.
Kellogg is fine too. More essentially, you should understand and tell the AO WHO you are other than what you did.

Do your homework well. When I applied, since my goal was to do investment(especially on VC side), I checked the alum base of my target schools in almost every reputable firm in China. My interviewer even did not know some alum I mentioned.

And I do encourage you to apply for 1-2 non-IT schools. Luck plays a big role in the application.

I disagree with your argument that you lack spakles. We are all unique. Your job is to find your uniquness and show it to the AO.

我觉得LZ选校还是不错的,一看就是做过功课的。

MIT什么的当然可以尝试,但是不能抱太大的希望。可以冲击一下Ross试试看。

Thank you, I'm considering enlisting Ross. Sloan is out of my league.

Thanks for your reply.

There are many in NA:
Lucent(Now part of Alcatel-Lucent),
Nortel(already bankrupted and sold to Ericsson in NA),
Cisco
Qualcomm(Telecom and Semiconductor)
Broadcom,
Junipter,
Avaya,
...

LZ used to work in one of them, but now in an American company famous in cable communication and service, still categorized in telecom industry.

Right. Cisco is one of the top telecom companies, which is also from USA.
I recommend Cornell for you. Johnson and Tepper should be both in your league.

You aren’t exactly an “old man” J Actually applying at 29 is as good as applying at 26. So don't even think about it twice. I think the schools you listed are good for you and do have a tech management strength. You could also look into Haas (a bit harder), Anderson and Ross as a few more good options for you. And with 6 years at American firms plus a very very nice GMAT, I think this could be a good selection for you.

背景和分数都挺solid,学校推荐如下:

MIT/Kellogg/Haas/Ross/Duke
