The author suggests that educational institutions should actively encourage their students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers.Although the suggestion has its value to some degree, it is in fact infeasible.The author overlooks some significant elements such as the students' motion and desire to realize their dreams.So, frankly, I do not agree this suggestion and my reasons are as follows.



Admittedly, preparing for lucrative careers is a significant element for students to choose their fields of study.When students graduate, the next question they will face is how they can survive and make a better life in society.Thus, it is important for students that whether their major can help them find a lucrative career.For example, when i was thinking about which major i should study during my college life, my mom encouraged me to major medical science,for the simple reason that doctor is a good career which can bring me a great deal of benefits.In this view of point, the element whether the fields of study can bring benefits should be considered during choosing fields of study.



However, it will appear a many problems if almost students are encouraged to study in the fields which are better to make money in the future.For schools, more and more students will major the hot disciplines and less and less students will major the unpopular disciplines, even though the disciplines are full of knowledge. For society, it must cause staff shortage in some occupations due to the students’ selections of fields of study during their college.And for the students themselves, some of them may not find the happiness during the studying because the fields of study, which is encouraged by the educations institutions, are not the fields they really interest.



Besides, the teaching meaning of educational institutions is to help students acquire knowledge and excavate their potential and explore the unknown things. Responsible educational institution would appreciate the students’ decision and guide them forward instead of dissuading them from pursuing fields of study they interests, even though the fields of study is unlikely lucrative.This is because it is really difficult for educational institutions to define what is really lucrative and what is unsuccessful. Obviously, this teaching of the author is far away from the real teaching meaning of educational institutions.



To sum up, there are many reasons for educational institutions not to actively encourage students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers, the interest of students and the teaching idea of educational institutions are the most obvious.Whether students will find lucrative jobs or not, it only depends on the students themselves at all.The educational institutions should only play a role in students’ decision by giving them positive energy, like the Nike's slogan: JUST DO IT.
