Should university education include an internship or some type of work experience?
In my opinion, internship or any other kind of working experience should be made complusory at university stage.
Let's begin with my understanding of the meaning of university education. I think university is a trial court, where a relatively pure environment is provided and students can put what they have learnt in theory into practise. It should prepare students with all the necessary knowledges and skills that are needed to survive, surpass others and suceed in the broad society. In other words, campuses in a way simulate a real society, with rules and all kinds of relations. Employee-employer relationship is sooner or later to be encountered by a student, who is destined to enter society. Consequently, university education should in no way omit a requirement for internship or some type of work experience for students.
Another reason that I am for the internship is that both students and employers can benefit from this kind of relationship. On one hand, undergraduates, who haven't a chance to get access to working practices may now know what's new and most useful at work place. This would in turn help him understand his courses, put more efforts on developing related skills and complement necessary knowledges. On the other hand, companies can also benefit by hiring high quality people with relatively low labor costs. Even in case they do not hire the student, they can still use it as an effective way to market for the firm among youth and lead to positive socail effects.
As for the mostly argued disadvantages of intership, such as students would not learn much because they are usually not allowed to do sophisticated works, I consider that is not absolute. Compared with staying in the libarary reading theoriotical books, I prefer to go to the workplace and see what it is like with my eyes. I believe that would be an impetus for me to learn harder and happier.
