Assumption
1.Barnes: The two newest employees at this company have salaries that aretoo high for the simple tasks normally assigned to new employees and duties that are too complex for inexperienced workers. Hence, the salaries and the complexity of the duties of these two newest employees should be reduced.
Which one of the following is an assumption on which Barnes’s argument
depends?
C. The two newest employees are not experienced at their occupations.

2. The current pattern of human consumption of resources, in which we rely on nonrenewable resources, for example metal ore, must eventually change. Since there is only so much metal ore available, ultimately we must either do without or turn to renewable resources to take its place.

Which one of the following is an assumption required by the argument?

(B) We cannot indefinitely replace exhausted nonrenewable resources with other nonrenewable resources.

4.Publicity campaigns for endangered species are unlikely to have much impact on the most important environmental problems, for while the ease of attributing feelings to large mammals facilitates evoking sympathy for them, it is more difficult to elicit sympathy for other kinds of organisms, such as the soil microorganisms on which large ecosystems and agriculture depend.
Which one of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

(A) The most important environmental problems involve endangered species other than large mammals.

3. In humans, ingested protein is broken down into amino acids, all of which must compete to enter the brain. Subsequent ingestion of sugars leads to the production of insulin, a hormone that breaks down the sugars and also rids the bloodstream of residual amino acids, except for tryptophan, Tryptophan then slips into the brain uncontested and is transformed into the chemical serotonin, increasing ht brainâ?s serotonin level. Thus sugars can play a major role in mood elevation, helping one to feel relaxed and anxiety-free.

Which one of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

(D) Increasing the level of serotonin in the brain promotes relaxation and freedom from anxiety.

5.Historian: Leibniz, the seventeenth-century philosopher, published his version of calculus before Newton did. But then Newton revealed his private notebooks, which showed he had been using these ideas for atleast a decade before Leibniz's publication. Newton also claimed that he had disclosed these ideas to Leibniz in a letter shortly before Leibniz's publication. Yet close examination of the letter shows that Newton's few cryptic remarks did not reveal anything important about calculus. Thus, Leibniz and Newton each indepedently discovered calculus.

WHich one of the following is an assumption required by the historian's argument?

E) Neither Newton nor Leibniz learned crucial details about calculus from some third source.

premise: two newest employees have salaries that are too high for the simple tasks normally assigned to new employees and duties that are too complex for inexperienced workers.
conclusion: the salaries and the complexity should be reduced.
assumption: their ability cannot rearch that level ( or they will not be promoted to get more complex duties and high salary

premise:it is more difficult to elicit sympathy for other kinds of organisms, such as the soil microorganisms on which large ecosystems and agriculture depend.
conclusion: Publicity campaigns for endangered species are unlikely to have much impact on the most important environmental problems
assumption: ppl will not pay more attention on the action than on the feelings
4.0:39
premise: T=>changed into S=>when into the brian,↑ S level
conclusion: sugars can play a major role in mood elevation, helping one to feel relaxed and anxiety-free.
assumption: fill the gap, S will help ppl to relax

premise: N's private notebooks showed he had been using these ideas before L's publication;
N had disclosed these ideas to L in a letter shortly before L's publication.
Yet N's few cryptic remarks did not reveal anything important about calculus.
conclusion : Leibniz and Newton each indepedently discovered calculus.
assumption: L has no way to get in touch with that notebook

Conclusion:

Assumption:

Conclusion:

P When attributing sympathy to one kind of creasure, people are hard caring about other kinds of organisms.
C publicity about environment campaign cannot have impact on important problems
assumption: It is the kind of organisms that make up to the important problems.
3
P sugar in the body induces insulin which breaks down the sugar and the amino-acids except for T.
P T enters the human body and inceased the S level in brain.
C sugar plays a vital role in elevating people's mood.
assumption: GAP: The S level in the brain corelates with people's happy mood.

P L published the calcus before NT.
P Yet, NT said he had already known the theory before the L's publication.
NT said he told L about the theory in a letter.
further examination showed that there were no clues in the letter that NT told L.
C NT and L developed the theory independently.
assumption: They had no other sources to share or know the theory.

Fact: two newest employees get high salary, simple tasks, and complex duties at the same time.
Conclusion: tasks assigned to freshmen should be tougher and duties on the chicks should be simpler.
Assumption: complex duties could not qualify the new staffs to high payments under the simple tasks environment.

Argument: human should change their patterns of consumption of resources, for the reason that nonrenewable resources are not limitless.
Evidence: metallic resources are limited.
Assumption: 1. People will not die out before they deplete all nonrenewable resources. 2. The human cannot continuously find new nonrenewable resources.
83 45’’
Argument: Publicity campaigns for endangered species do not have much impact on the most important environment problems.
Evidence: though people have compassion on those extinct large mammals, they show little sympathy on endangered microorganisms.
Assumption: the fact that endangered mammals are endangered are not as serious problems as the truth that microorganisms extinct.
84 90’’
Fact1: ingested protein is broken down into amino acids; they must compete for the right to enter into the brain.
Fact2: when sugar is ingested, the body secret insulin that disintegrate the sugar and and that prevent amino acids, except one typtophan, from entering the brain.
Conclusion: sugar can play a major role in mood elevation.
Assumption: disintegrated sugar itself will not lower the mood.

Background info: Leibniz published his version of calculus earlier than Newton report his research.
Argument: Newton said Leibniz stole his idea because he wrote to Leibniz a letter that contains calculus research before Leibniz published the book.
Anti-argument: the letter is of no value since the symbol on the letter is cryptic and no one understood.
Conclusion: Leibniz invented calculus independently of Newton’s help.
Assumption: Even if Leibniz was expert in calculus, he also cannot understand the information in Newton’s coming letter.

P:sugar consumption can induce the release of insulin, which will enable T to slid into the brain and to induce the release of S by ridding other amino acid.
C:sugar can help people feel happy and relaxed
Assumption: one major function of S is to help people feel happy and relaxed.
4.31s
P: although people will show sympathy for endangered large animals, they are unlikely to care the other organism, which may have an important role in our environment
C: public campaigns for endangered animals will not help the environment as a whole
Assumption: other small animals are also endangered and should call into people's sympathy
5.42s(哈哈,是Mia最爱的数学问题~牛顿-莱布尼兹对微积分的贡献呗!)
BG:N claimed that he invented the calculus a decade before L invented it and he ever written to L to disclose some ideas
P: we have not discovered any details about calculus in N's letters
C: L and P invented calculus independently
Assumption: no other letters that are about N's calculus remarks are not discovered
