i am a phd student in university of memphis. majored in finance.

just a little curious how many students get the interview from my university.

Don't forget Memphis has Pankaj Jain, who did pretty well and also has reputation in Microstructure. Also, McInish published two articles on JFE in 2013 and 2015. Sandra Mortal is good at Corporate, and she has RFS and bunch of JFQAs. Overall, this dept is still strong but there are some problems you mentioned.

As for the placements, recent placements are much stronger than those old years. Jim Upson went to UTEP with a JFM in 2009. Archana Jain went to Rochester Institute of Technology with a JFE forthcoming in 2013. Ying Huang went to Manitoba with a JBF in 2014. The guy graduating this year is working on real estate and has two A level real estate forthcoming.

The training mode in Memphis is the key of its better placements than most of other peer schools. As early as the first year, students are encouraged to coauthored with PK Jain or McInish. Anyway, I am still optimistic to their program.

Thomas McInish 快七十岁了 九十年代他带的不少学生都place到密西西比州的一些学校 孟大的金融系基本仰仗他的威望 不过也是吃老本的情况 现在的placement越来越差了 加上孟菲斯这样的破落老城 很难吸引到有能力的faculty 这个学校未来堪忧 如果McInish退休 孟大很难再找到另一个同等量级的人物 今后的finance phd项目会越来越两级分化 好的项目越来越好 中等的项目越来越差
