申请phd的出身问题

请问申请到insead Singapore的中国同学们都是985/211来的么？

basically very hard, only if you can go into a top master program and show you are one of  the best in it. Then you have the chance.

我明白你的意思。我有个师兄也教育我说主要是要展示出自己的能力和潜力。
我本科是非211重点，硕士是个普通院校。目前要去美国重新读个ms。

如果有机会进入insead这种水平的地方读phd，我觉得花费一些青春还是值得的。
本科成绩挺糟糕的，那会对成绩也没啥概念就是混及格就好，蹉跎的青春啊。 读研的时候去了一所不熟悉的普本，学术上锻炼的机会不多，所以选择出国重新读。一切就是希望以后能有机会去高水平的地方读博士，或者说让自己成为更高水平的人。 倒不是对211/985有啥想法，本科加上研究生这几年这些事情都看开了，根本还是自己的提升和努力。 目前的问题是，对于学术，兴趣是有的，方向是迷糊的，似乎没有走上一条正确的道路。

The above statement is just my personal opinion that reflects my own bias and experience.  In addition, only faculty from top school are interested in applicant's potentials beyond productivity. Second-tier schools strive to attract the applicants who have more productivity than brains. My comments also do not apply to non-US schools.

In summary, one A-journal publication is, at most, an indicator of the applicant's research potential, and the indicator is strong only if the applicant is the major contributor of the paper in an important way. It is the real education and self determination that truly distinguishes a future scholar from others.

Having an A journal is not prerequisite.

One A journal publication is not an absolute advantage; two would be more pursuasive. But who would have two A journal publications and apply for a PhD admission?

Hence, what matters is the potential to publish in A journals every year after graduation. Faculty cares more about the rigor of training and maturity of survising that applicants demonstrate in their academic background than about simply the productivity of their research experience. Anyway, most of such "research experience" is third-tier and barely counts on its own.
